Enzymes are becoming increasingly important as a component of industrial processes in pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Research into industrially required enzyme functions in the laboratory is expensive, extremely time-consuming and subject to many limitations. With the CatalophoreTM platform developed by Innophore, it is now possible to identify alternative enzymes to existing processes on the computer (“in silico”) in a very short time and thus optimize processes or make certain processes possible in the first place. In addition, the CatalophoreTM platform will also be used to discover new enzyme functions and reaction pathways that have so far remained hidden from industry. The data obtained will be used in a

unique database, a kind of digital enzyme search engine, for partners in the pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, food, cosmetics, agricultural, textile and diagnostics sectors. Compared to classical digital and manual laboratory searches, the Catalophore™ platform searches selectively filter enzyme functions from a repository of hundreds of thousands of structural data. What is special about this search is that catalytic capabilities that have not yet been associated with the enzyme can be found using the platform. The cost and quality of drugs, food, chemical compounds or the development of new therapies can thus be drastically improved.
